The place to start and grow your business

Staff Spotlight – Clint Reecer

Clint Reecer

New on the WESST blog! Once a month, we will be featuring either a WESST client or a WESST staff member. We hope to tell people more about WESST, our clients, and the great services we offer through this new post series. This month, we are featuring new Albuquerque Regional Manager Clint Reecer.

What made you want to come to work for WESST?

I’ve always wanted to work for an organization where I could use my knowledge and experience to help people, so WESST was a perfect fit for me. I found out about WESST researching entrepreneurship in grad school, and always had a great admiration for what they did – so many entrepreneurs get into business without the tools & skills they need to be successful, and I have a lot of respect for any organization that makes those resources more readily available & easy to access. I did private business and IT consulting for several years before I found WESST, and I always joked that if you could afford a private consultant, you were doing well enough to not need one. With my job at WESST, I get a chance to help the entrepreneurs that need it the most without having to overcome those barriers, and I’m really grateful for that.

What was your very first job?

I was a caddie at a country club! I carried the bags, pulled clubs for the golfers, attended the pins and all that other fun stuff you see on TV.  It was a lot of fun, but there’s a lot of convention and procedure that made being a caddie more formal than you would probably guess – there’s rules for EVERYTHING. There’s even a rule for where to position your shadow on the green.

What’s your favorite part of working here?

Working with the other WESST staff. We have such an incredible team with so much knowledge that it’s hard not to learn something new every day. Everyone at WESST has different experience and areas of expertise, so if I don’t have the right answer for one of my clients, it’s never very far away. It’s also really fun to bring all of that knowledge together when we collaborate on things like projects, new initiatives or service improvement for our clients – our team really shines when we work together, and those moments are a huge part of why I enjoy working at WESST.

What do you do when you’re not working?

I spend a lot of time being active, and being outside. I love strength & conditioning training, and I do that at least 3 nights out of the week. I also play in a kickball league during the warmer months – it’s a basically great excuse for a grown-up like me to play outside with my friends. My wife and I also operate an urban farm in our backyard – it’s a lot of work because we grow produce, raise chickens and keep bees, but it’s something we both love and are really passionate about.

What do you wish people knew about WESST?

I wish people knew the full scope of what WESST can do for entrepreneurs! When I’m out talking to people in the community, many of them only know one part of what WESST does – I hear a lot of people say we only do business incubation, or that we only loan money. I want people to know that WESST is a true “one-stop-shop” that does all of that and so much more for entrepreneurs throughout New Mexico. We’re here to provide business owners with anything they need, whether it’s consultation, training, lending, incubation or anything else – spread the word!
