Client Spotlight – Shadowlands Design

L Siegel

LEAH SIEGEL, SHADOWLANDS DESIGN makes limited-edition fine art wearables and functional items that transform the ordinary. Inspired by the dramatic landscapes of the Southwest, Shadowlands Design’s products feature bold abstract digital designs and contemporary comfort. The scarves, home décor and lifestyle accessories are always collectible and make perfect gifts.

Where did the “big idea” for your business come from? What made you decide to move forward with it?

The “big idea” for Shadowlands Design came from my wanting to create beautiful useful items that would delight and comfort people, especially in uncertain economic times.  I decided to move forward with this idea after receiving enthusiastic responses from people upon their seeing my scarves and home décor items – “WOW! I love them! I’ve never seen anything like these before!”

What’s the most satisfying part of being an entrepreneur?

The most satisfying part of being an entrepreneur is delighting people with unique functional items that offer them an unusual way of viewing the world.
Most challenging is getting my work out to a wider audience and bringing in more money.

What do you do when you’re not working?

My main activities are photographing, making art, hiking, visiting galleries/museums, spending time with friends.

Would you do anything differently, if you could start your business over again? If so, what?

If I could start Shadowlands Design over again, I would be 30 years younger!

What advice do you have for other people who want to start their own business?

My advice is to be totally passionate and unstoppable about your adventure.
