The place to start and grow your business

Staff Spotlight – Kris Crowell

Kris Crowell

In our first staff spotlight of 2019 we are very happy to introduce you to Kris Crowell. Kris came to WESST at the end of November 2018, as the new Regional Manager for Albuquerque, NM. Welcome aboard Kris!

What made you want to come to work for WESST?

I definitely saw it as an opportunity to give back to my local community – to make a difference in people’s lives by helping them fulfill their dreams while also contributing to the community through increased economic impact, business growth and employment. The Vision of WESST really resonated with me; Our vision is to provide sustainable economic opportunities for any New Mexican. We want to be a trusted part of every business owner’s life, every day, with something we have given them, taught them or inspired them to do.

What was your very first job?

I cut grass, trimmed trees and planted flowers for my uncle who had a huge yard in Wisconsin. I also painted classrooms for my school district in the summer and when I wasn’t on an athletic team during the school year, I provided janitorial services for the school district. I definitely prided myself on having money to buy my first car when most of my friends didn’t have one!

What’s your favorite part of working here?

The positive, can-do, creative energy of the entire staff. That clearly spills over into the determination and commitment of our incubator businesses. Everyone is so supportive and success is paramount. I’m excited about the uniqueness and diversity of our clients. It takes courage to go-it-alone to start a new business. But they are not going-it-alone. WESST is here for them and I love being a part of their support system and success!

What do you do when you’re not working?

We moved to New Mexico for the local art community, cultural diversity, landscape and the incredible big blue skies! We’ve also met so many wonderful new friends. That being said, we’re out exploring our new “back yard” and building new friendships. We’re active supporting local artists, being artists ourselves and generally just being inspired by our amazing surroundings.

What do you wish people knew about WESST?

What has been most remarkable to me about WESST is the relationships that have been built over 30 years. There are so many additional non-profit organizations partnering with us to improve the lives of the underserved and help grow our community. There is a lot going on behind-the-scenes that I think most folks in the corporate world don’t know. I’ve met so many passionate people committed to serving others. I’m so proud to be a part of this community of people. I wake-up every day knowing that I have the opportunity to be a contributor. Thank you WESST!
