From the top down, our experienced staff operates in a team-oriented collaborative environment that helps foster small business solutions to share with our clients. We are prodigious learners, meticulous listeners, and natural problem solvers. Our collective experience is our foundation and it grows stronger with every new challenge we face and every new client we help.
Prior to joining WESST in 1991, Agnes served as a small business consultant in the United States Peace Corp in Costa Rica and as the Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt. She holds a BA in Political Science from Berea College and a MA in International Affairs from The George Washington University. She has received numerous honors: Top-Performing CEO (2009), Junior Achievement’s New Mexico Business Hall of Fame, (2005); Women of Influence (2005); and New Mexico’s Small Business Advocate of the Year, United States Small Business Administration, (1995). Agnes is particularly passionate about personal and business financial literacy. She loves to read and fantasizes about becoming a beach bum.
Program Coordinator, Roswell
Veronica immigrated to the United States at a very young age from Mexico. She was raised in Roswell and married her high school sweetheart. They remain in the area and now have three grown children. She has a great love for her community and a vested interest in its development. She has been an entrepreneur most of her adult life and her vision is to empower others to higher levels of success. Her background includes banking, medical, and education. Veronica is bilingual and a published author. In her spare time, she loves to spend time with her family, read, write and serve on mission trip teams.
Director of Lending
Kim received her MBA in Finance from the UNM Anderson School of Management in 1982 and spent the next 8 years in banking as a commercial loan officer in Arizona and New Mexico. When WESST started in 1990, she joined to set up the micro-loan program, which she currently manages. She also teaches classes in Albuquerque on business planning and financial projections. Kim is passionate about the outdoors, and spends as much time as she can biking, hiking, skiing and fly fishing while attempting to manage her three teenagers and their father.
Regional Manager, Santa Fe
Before coming to WESST in 1992, Bette spent over 18 years in advertising and marketing with national companies, serving as Senior Marketing Executive for Kay Jewelers, B Dalton Booksellers and Henry Birks Jewelers. She holds a BA in Secondary Education and a MA in Mass Communication. Named the 2009 Home-Based Business Champ by the SBA and the 2009 Women’s Business Advocate of the Year by the New Mexico Women’s Business Association, Bette is also the winner of numerous CLIOS, ADDYs, and Printing Industry of America awards, and is the author of WESST’s award-winning Perfect Pitch™ curriculum. Bette boasts particular pride in transitioning professional skills from the for-profit world to the non-profit world. A healthy and active wife, mother and grandmother, Bette loves to read, run, garden, travel and golf, and particularly enjoys rowing at sunrise on Cochiti Lake. She is a serial entrepreneur to boot!
Vice President of Development
Dianne Campbell joins WESST in 2015 with more than 10 years of experience in development, including Director of Advancement for Menaul School and Director of Newspapers in Education at the Albuquerque Journal. After growing up traveling the world as a military dependent, and then attending college in Texas (University of Texas-BFA and Texas Christian University–MFA), she arrived in New Mexico in 2000. Dianne values the diversity and cultures that make up the Land of Enchantment, and has never met a stranger. She loves helping people and creating connections. Dianne also serves on the boards of several organizations and non-profits and is passionate about making a difference in her community. Dianne and her family – husband Pete, son Grant, and Teddy and Duffy (the Airedales), enjoy walks along the Bosque. In her very rare free-time, Dianne enjoys visiting with friends and family, cooking, gardening and creating indie music play lists.
Prior to joining WESST, Antoinette spent 26 years working for various financial banking institutions beginning her career as a loan review analyst to commercial loan officer. She holds a BA in Finance and Economics from the University of New Mexico. At WESST, she works directly with microloan clients analyzing their information and looking for ways to help them achieve their dreams for success. In her spare time, Antoinette loves to cook, travel and spend time with her husband and two children.
Regional Manager, Rio Rancho
Born in Albuquerque and raised in Lubbock, Texas, Brad returned to New Mexico in 1994 and has held a variety of positions throughout his career including Restaurant/Hotel management with Hyatt Regency hotels, Sales and Marketing in both the industrial and healthcare sectors, and in Real Estate sales and investments. He holds his undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University and an MBA from the Anderson School of Management at the University of New Mexico. Brad is also an avid sports fan, skier, mountain biker, and outdoorsman who loves to travel and enjoy new adventures with family and friends.
Program Coordinator, Las Cruces
Alicia is a native of Las Cruces – graduating from Mayfield High School. After working for several years in the legal field, she returned to NMSU to pursue her goal of earning her bachelor’s degree in Economics with a concentration in Sociology and a minor in Government. While attending NMSU, Alicia worked at Arrowhead Technology Incubator, was involved in Voice Against Cancer, a campus organization, is currently a member of the organizing team for Startup Weekend Las Cruces and participates in the Relay for Life (for both NMSU and the county). Alicia has a daughter, Kiera, who is in college. Alicia enjoys spending time with her sister, with friends, time at the gym, watching movies, and reading. She is also on the Board of Directors for the Las Cruces Green Chamber of Commerce.
Business Consultant and Trainer, Albuquerque
Mark Gilboard joins WESST in 2017 after 16+ years as a marketing and advertising research professional with Nielsen Media Research and Clear Channel Outdoor. He focuses on helping people achieve their entrepreneurial dreams with careful and insightful guidance and enthusiasm. Prior to embarking on his corporate career, Mark taught college courses in Media, and Communications, at both CNM and UNM. He has a Master’s Degree in Communication from UNM and Bachelor’s Degrees in both Rhetoric and Spanish from Bates College, in Lewiston, Maine. Mark believes Albuquerque is a great place to build successful businesses, and an especially great place to start and raise families. He lives in the Ridgecrest area of town with his wife Kristen and two daughters – Anneliese and Nola, plus a bevy of beasts – canine, feline and reptilian.
Bilingual Consultant and Trainer, Albuquerque
Margarita holds a Master’s degree in Mass Communication and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, both from the University of Florida. She has been a business owner for the past 8 years and has over 15 years of experience in training, entrepreneurship, and consulting. Margarita was the founder and education director of Spanish ABQ, financial advisor with Merrill Lynch, education advisor with DeVry University, and process engineer with privately held companies in Houston. Margarita is a published author and fluent in Spanish. She has a strong sense of empathy and a passion to educate, help, and inspire others to do remarkable things. She is passionate about working with entrepreneurs and small business owners helping them start and manage their business. Margarita is a big believer in nurturing the ability to speak multiple languages and she serves on the board of a bilingual education school. She loves spending time with her family and using her creativity to reimagine new uses for old things.
Regional Manager, Farmington
Prior to joining the WESST team in 2013, Chris owned and operated his own Farmington-based business development practice for over 10 years where he served a wide variety of clients in helping them build better businesses. Prior to returning to Farmington in 1999, Chris gained over 20-years’ experience working in a variety of financial, operations and communications capacities at several large domestic and international companies including PNM, PacifiCorp and Peabody Coal Company. He has a B.S. in Business Administration from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri and an M.B.A. from the UNM Anderson School of Management. He enjoys skiing, digital photography, reading, computers and helping people accomplish goals. He is married and has two grown daughters.
Rhonda B. Johnson
Regional Manager, Roswell
Rhonda brings a great deal of energy and passion to WESST’s Roswell office. Joining WESST in October 2014, Rhonda is excited to share her business experience with entrepreneurs. She holds an Associate of Arts in Business and a Bachelor of Science in Health Administration from the University of Phoenix. Rhonda has lived in several Texas cities and even across the pond near London, England. She moved to Roswell in 1995 and has been active in the community, volunteering in many organizations and serving on several Boards. Rhonda is very health conscious, active, and loves being a mother and grandmother. Her oldest son and daughter still live in Texas with her six grandchildren and her youngest son is a Coast Guard Officer currently stationed in Honolulu, HI at Pearl Harbor with his wife. Favorite pastimes include dancing, spending time with friends, especially over a latte, and photographing the New Mexico sunsets!
Director of Finance
Agnes Maldonado has over twenty five years of accounting/financial experience in the public and private sectors.
She started her career as an accountant in non- profit organizations After several years of concentrating in accounting Agnes made a career change and became the Executive Director for a few years where her accounting and financial background was instrumental in maintaining high quality financial controls, to include all aspects of the finances, including development and management of budgets, preparation of financial statements. After years in management, Agnes decided to concentrate her efforts in accounting/finance.
Prior to joining WESST in 2010, Michele spent 10 years in the Air Force and 10 years at Intel. She has been in the customer service/admin world for over 20 years. She is a mother of two boys, Josh & Tylor as well as 2 lab pups, Koko & Bandit that keep her very busy. In her spare time she loves to read, spend time with family and serve in the homeless ministry.
Financial Literacy Program Manager
Zoe is passionate about New Mexico and enjoys working on programs that build community and contribute to economic development. For the past 2 years, Zoe has managed the IDA program for WESST, training over 200 people on personal financial literacy topics and assisting over 150 of those participants with asset purchases. With a background in financial literacy program management, marketing and fundraising, Zoe is excited about the future of programming at WESST. Zoe is a Certified Financial Education Instructor (CFEI) through the National Financial Educators Council. Zoe loves her family, is passionate about New Mexico and is known for a few of her “special recipes” and love for the kitchen.
Program Coordinator/Trainer, Santa Fe
Roseanna is bilingual and brings a wealth of experience to the WESST team, including Pueblo Human Resources, Corporate Customer Service Management on a local and regional level, plus management experience in the hospitality industry. She has extensive training experience, and is herself an entrepreneur. Roseanna has been recognized for funds raised for Race for the Cure and for her participation in Boxing for Seniors. In her spare time she loves to bowl and read, and she coaches a boys’ elementary basketball team.
Regional Manager, Albuquerque
Born in Los Alamos and raised in Albuquerque, Clint is a native New Mexican that is passionate about assisting the local small business community. He has a B.B.A. in Finance and an M.B.A. in Management of Technology, both from the Anderson School of Management at the University of New Mexico.
As a professional educator and former entrepreneur, Clint believes that the key to economic success is providing knowledge and support to future entrepreneurs throughout New Mexico. Clint specializes in financial management consulting, and enjoys teaching small business owners how to incorporate financial information into the decision-making process. In his spare time, Clint enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter and two German Shepherd dogs. Clint is also an avid outdoorsman, and enjoys camping, hiking, fishing and snowboarding.
Lorena Schott is a native New Mexican that brings a wealth of experience to the WESST team. Before joining WESST in 2009, she worked for Intel where she was acknowledged for her establishment of Intel’s centralized on-line system, rewarding and recognizing employees worldwide. Lorena is devoted to her husband and two sons. She enjoys the outdoors and spends her free time reading, hiking, and baking.
Managing Director, WESST Enterprise Center, Albuquerque | Marketing Director
Julianna Silva is a native New Mexican and a graduate of the UNM Anderson School of Management. She is also an entrepreneur and provides part-time marketing, accounting and operations support for her husband’s furniture studio. Prior to joining WESST, she consulted and provided mentoring and marketing services to non-profit organizations, women entrepreneurs, and artists.
At WESST, Julianna manages the incubator program in Albuquerque and works one on one with her clients to develop and implement business plans, accounting systems and marketing strategies. She also provides high-value workshops in topics such as QuickBooks, Web Marketing and Learning the Language of Business Finances. In 2014, she received a recognition award from The New Mexico Technology Council as a “Women in Tech” leader. She was recognized in 2015 by the Small Business Administration as the New Mexico “Women in Business Champion of the Year.”
Erica Smith joined WESST in early 2017. She joins us with a background in community and local government affairs. She has over 15 years of Customer Service experience, of which 7 were spent in a supervisory role. Erica is most excited about engaging the community to support our clients. She is originally from Detroit, Michigan but has called Albuquerque her home for more than 20 years. Erica has 2 sons and enjoys writing and participating in 5k races.
Front Desk Administrator
Alma Vasquez, Front Desk Administrator, is likely to be the first smiling face you’ll see when arriving at WESST in Albuquerque. With more than 23 years of experience in customer service before joining the WESST team, Alma knows what it takes to keep our office running smoothly on a daily basis.
Alma enjoys interacting with each and every client who walks through the door, and is especially good at making them feel comfortable and welcome when they arrive for an appointment. Alma is fluent in both English and Spanish, a critical skill that supports WESST’s Spanish-speaking clients in accessing our programs.
Alma was born in Texas, but has also lived in Oklahoma and West Virginia. Her two children were born in Roswell, NM, so she now calls New Mexico home. During her downtime, she likes to be in the kitchen cooking with family and friends. She also enjoys spending time with her Grandson who is now 3 years old.
Melissa Toland Williams
Loan Fund Administrator
Prior to joining WESST, Melissa spent a few years working in the microloan industry. She holds a BS in International Business Administration with an emphasis in Spanish from Missouri State University. At WESST, she will help manage the microloan portfolio.
