Business Training and Workshops
WESST offers a variety of single and multi-session training and workshops that provide a “deep-dive” approach to learning about key business concepts. Our staff of experts develops a majority of the business curriculum we offer and it’s tailored to the needs of today’s busy entrepreneur. We provide short-cuts and tools that enable entrepreneurs to build their capacity to start and grow a successful business. Our curriculum covers topic areas that include (but are not limited to):
- business planning
- strategic planning
- web marketing
- social media marketing
- HR management
- financial planning and analysis
We also partner with other organizations to offer tailored curriculum such as the ETSY Craft Entrepreneurship Program which helps artists and makers learn how to sell online using ETSY as a learning lab.
FREE Brown Bag Lunch Events
Meet other small business owners and learn about business during your lunch hour. WESST Regional Offices offer free Brown Bag Lunches during the work week that feature local industry experts speaking about timely subjects and topics. Some Brown Bag Lunch events are sponsored and may also include lunch/beverages. Please check our Upcoming Training page to see if there’s an upcoming Brown Bag Lunch scheduled in your area.
Customized Training for Businesses, Nonprofits and Academic Institutions
WESST is available to create customized training courses on topics related to business management, financial literacy, social media marketing, search engine optimization (SEO), and computer skills. Our expertise in developing training courses using adult learning methodologies allows us to create effective and customized programs that meet your organization’s specific needs If your organization or academic institution is interested in hiring WESST to develop a customized training program, please contact us for more information.
Financial Literacy Training Through Our IDA Program
Participants in WESST’s IDA (Individual Development Account) program complete a ten-week money management course that focuses on budgeting, saving, and credit. After successful completion of the money management training, participants open a savings account to which they contribute for a period of six months to two years. Participants’ contributions are matched by WESST at various rates that are dependent upon funding.
Over the last several years, match rates range from 4:1 to 8:1, providing participants with $2,500 to $4,500 in total savings ($500 participant savings and $2,000 to $4,000 from the WESST match). The use of these matched savings is restricted to high-return investments: buying a home as a first time home-buyer, paying for post-secondary education, or investing in a new or established business.
Since October 2013, 378 people have completed the IDA Financial Literacy training, 258 of those trained have opened an IDA savings account and 164 have successfully purchased an asset through the program. For more information, and to see if you might be able to participate in WESST’s IDA program, please contact Zoe Otero-Martinez for more information at firstname.lastname@example.org or (505) 246-6945.
Reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities and language assistance services are available for limited English proficient individual. Please notify WESST (see contact info below) when you register for class, no later than 24 hours prior to your class, so that WESST can make sure necessary accommodations are available.
