After years of planning following the launch of New Mexico’s community solar program, Affordable Solar is now powering up projects across the state. On February 26, Affordable Solar and its nonprofit partners gathered to celebrate five community solar projects now online, with a sixth expected by the end of the month. Together, these projects represent 30 megawatts of solar capacity, providing clean electricity to homes and organizations statewide.

During the event, Dylan Connelly, Director of Commercial and Community Solar Development, presented checks to Locker 505, Central New Mexico Community College, Global Give A Book, WESST, and Wings for Life.

The Community Solar program was created to make clean energy accessible to everyone, not just those who can install solar panels on their own homes. Through this program, residents can subscribe to a portion of a shared solar farm, a facility that generates power for the local electric grid. In return, subscribers receive solar credits on their monthly electric bills. These credits lower utility costs, and because you pay a reduced rate for the credits themselves, monthly savings are guaranteed.
