Money Smart Week partner organizations will host a Friday kickoff for Money Smart Week (MSW), featuring a series of events designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances.

The Money Smart Week (MSW) Kick-off event will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at WESST, 609 Broadway NE, Albuquerque. The program will include a press conference, and five classes. The press event will occur from 9:00-9:30 am, followed throughout the day with classes.

The following classes are open to the public:

  • Senior Scam Jam: 9:45 AM – 10:45 AM
  • Adults: Credit and Debt Management: 10 AM – Noon; Repeated 1:30-3:30 PM
  • Adults: Budgeting: 1:30-2:30 PM

Money Smart Week, a collaborative effort with local nonprofits and financial institutions, is designed to educate consumers about money management and create awareness of financial education programs on topics such as budgeting, saving and using credit wisely.

“Whether you’re saving to buy a house or thinking about a student loan for college, financial decisions can be tough to navigate,” stated Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller. “Improved financial literacy and a better understanding of money management can set Albuquerque families on a path to success. Folks from all walks of life should take advantage of these free trainings during Money Smart Week and throughout the year.”

“It is absolutely critical that New Mexican families are financially literate so that they can protect themselves and create meaningful pathways to prosperity for themselves and future generations, and I am honored to participate in Money Smart Week and applaud the work of our partners in providing this vital training and resources to our families,” said Attorney General Hector Balderas.

“I’m excited for what we can teach the kids and how we can better their lives—not only the kids themselves, but also their siblings and their parents,” said New Mexico State Treasurer Tim Eichenberg.

“Managing your money wisely is crucial to planning for the future and making personal and business financial decisions,” said Agnes Noonan, President of WESST. “I’m excited to partner with organizations across Bernalillo County to bring Money Smart Week to Central New Mexico, and encourage everyone to take advantage of these free events. Every New Mexican can benefit from deepening their financial knowledge so they can make better financial decisions.

Money Smart Week runs April 21-28. More information on the events, including personal finance classes in English and Spanish, is available on the Money Smart Week Central New Mexico website at www.MoneySmartWeekCNM.org.
