Highway 28 Farmers & Artisans Market

Patsy Villalobos was familiar with WESST for some time through her work with the community as she began developing the idea of starting a business with her cousin, Grace. Patsy had previously collaborated with Candle Baca, and when she learned Candle joined WESST in April 2026, the timing was perfect to reconnect and learn how WESST could help turn her idea into a reality.
One of the biggest challenges Patsy faced is common for so many new entrepreneurs: where to begin. "My cousin Grace and I have both been involved in our community, and through our experience, we saw a need to create more opportunities for farmers and artisans in rural areas," says Patsy.
They envisioned a traveling market along Highway 28 that would feature local vendors who grow or make their own products. They wanted the market to be more than just a place to shop; it could create the opportunity to bring people together, highlight local farms and small businesses, and introduce the community to beautiful locations in the greater Las Cruces area.
Patsy worked with WESST to navigate the necessary steps to launch their business, including establishing an LLC, identifying support and resources, and providing mentorship to continue moving forward. " The training opportunities have also been incredibly helpful, especially in areas such as marketing and branding, giving us the tools and knowledge to build awareness and connect with our broader community.
WESST provided the resources, guidance, and mentorship that helped turn our business idea into a reality. Having access to these resources has given us the confidence and tools to move forward.
