Ii’ni Marketplace

As Laris Manuelito began planning for her business, Ii’ni Marketplace, the biggest obstacle she encountered was securing funding for start-up businesses. She didn’t have collateral or prior business experience.  Laris connected with the WESST Farmington office and learned about Native Women Rising, a special initiative focused on serving Native entrepreneurs.

Laris, a Diné woman and a U.S. Army veteran, found there was a noticeable lack of dedicated support for female Native business owners like herself. WESST’s support went beyond financial assistance. She credits the organization’s commitment to helping her access resources and training and networking opportunities, actively championing her and her community. Laris participated in WESST trainings and says they equipped her with the practical knowledge and skills needed to thrive.

WESST was instrumental in bridging the gap she faced by facilitating valuable networking opportunities and assisting her with a microloan. She states their support directly contributed to her reaching her fundraising goals, transforming what seemed like obstacles into achievable targets. WESST also helped Laris organize and facilitate a community survey to local chapter houses where the marketplace will be located. “This collaborative approach ensures that the store will truly serve the needs of the community, fostering a sense of ownership and relevance.”

WESST has consistently been a central pillar of support, providing a reliable and trusted resource I can depend on whenever I need guidance or assistance. Their presence has empowered me to confidently navigate the entrepreneurial landscape, knowing that expert help is always within reach.

In October 2025, Laris secured the business site lease for Ii’ni Marketplace. It will be more than a grocery store, but a hub for the community, providing access to healthy food, and providing a supportive community environment.
