Lui came to WESST after being referred by Pioneer Bank. He was seeking a loan to expand their restaurant, Wavez, and take the next step in their growth. Through this referral, WESST and Lui built a relationship, learning more about his goals and exploring financing options that would support the development of his business.

Rooted deeply in his Hawaiian heritage, Lui has always carried a love for the flavors, traditions, and the spirit of aloha. After he began sharing ideas with his cousin, Tre, originally from Louisiana, they quickly discovered a powerful opportunity. By combining Tre’s Southern roots and love of Louisiana cuisine with Lui’s island heritage, they had a vision to fuse the vibrant flavors of Hawaii with the bold, soulful spices of Louisiana.

To expand the way they wanted, Lui needed support to strengthen their financial profile, and they were facing credit challenges. They needed a clear business plan with detailed financial projections to ensure sustainability. After they were able to develop a comprehensive business plan, Lui had his company goal’s outlined, the next steps mapped out, and they were better positioned to pursue funding and move forward with expansion.

WESST has been with us since 2024, honoring both our family’s history and the vibrant community we serve today. WESST helped us navigate the journey from a dream to a thriving brick-and-mortar reality. They are not just a program; they are a partner in the shared culture and success we are building right here in New Mexico.

Lui, Tre, and their other partner Vito, transformed their vision into an actualized restaurant concept. Wavez’ menu brings together island classics like poke and kalua-style dishes with Louisiana favorites, like Cajun shrimp, jambalaya-inspired dishes. Together, along with partner Vito, they transformed their shared vision into a thriving restaurant. Their menu brings together island classics and Louisiana favorites to create one-of-a-kind Hawaiian-Louisiana.
