The place to start and grow your business

Staff Spotlight – Lorena Schott

Lorena Schott

This month on the WESST blog, we are featuring Marketing Coordinator, Lorena Schott.  We hope you enjoy!

What made you want to come to work for WESST?

I started working at WESST as a temp in November 2009. Prior to WESST, I worked at Intel for 13 years, so working for a small non-profit was something new for me. After my first week, I knew this was where I wanted to be. WESST felt like family.

What was your very first job?

My first real job was working at Honeywell. I was an admin support for the Customer Representatives Area supporting McDonnell Douglas, Teledyne Systems, etc. Before that I had a few intern positions, which included working at Senator Domenici’s office, the American Red Cross, and Admissions Office at New Mexico State University.

What’s your favorite part of working here?

There are several reasons why I enjoy working at WESST. 1) The most important is definitely the people I get to work with. Everyone is smart, creative and committed to making WESST a great place to work. 2) I enjoy working in the marketing department. When I first started working at WESST, most people would say “What’s WESST”? Now when I say I work at WESST people know what I’m talking about. It’s nice to think that I’ve had a small part in making WESST a little more noticeable in our community. 3) Obviously hearing the client success stories. Our clients are amazing and inspirational! I love sharing our client stories and hearing how their businesses are thriving because of the support they’ve received from WESST.

What do you do when you are not working?

I love to spend time with my family. Most of my time used to be spent around my boys school activities, but my husband and I are getting ready to be empty nesters and will have to find new activities to keep us busy. I also enjoy crafting, doing projects around the house (painting, refurbishing furniture, etc.), reading and hiking. I had to take a break from hiking because of a knee injury, but I plan to do a big hike in September 2018 to Havasupai Falls in Arizona.

What do you wish people knew about WESST?

WESST has been helping small businesses fulfill their dreams for 29 years.
