Sunni Begay began her entrepreneurial journey in April of 2021 and came to the WESST Farmington Women’s Business Center seeking assistance in starting her business. Sunni was overwhelmed and not sure what she needed to do first. After her first initial consultation, she decided she wanted to work on her business plan. While working on her business plan, she registered for the DreamBuilder training program at WESST to help her develop a comprehensive plan to open AJ Barbers.

AJ Barbers, LLC is a locally operated family barbershop in Farmington, NM and opened in November 2021. They offer barbering and cosmetology services to your entire family, from straight razor shaves and fades to colors and perms. They also offer specific hair manipulation and design services, and facial hair grooming techniques executed according to customer preferences.

In the future, new services will include all-natural shampoos, conditioners, beard washes and oils, face scrubs, and lotions. Services will include a complimentary mini neck and shoulder massage, and hot towel treatment. Utilization of professional grooming products such as Matrix, Joico, Warlord, and Crew will be provided to the customers. Average Joe Barbers will also use locally sourced products – organic shampoos, oils, lotions, and shaving cream will be sold in the shop and will allow local developers an opportunity to reach more customers.

Sunny also received training in marketing and branding strategies from WESST, and she is building her cash flow projections with the anticipation of preparing her for loan packaging in 2022.
