A group of nine women, everyone is wearing boxing gloves. Four in the front are kneeling, and five are standing in the back. Everyone is smiling and looks proud and strong.
Hobbs, NM

Hailing from a family of boxers out of Hobbs, Lorena Chavarria has always had a strong connection to the sport through her family. It has been a continued, meaningful part of her life, instilling discipline and resilience. When Lorena first taught women’s boxing classes at her brother’s gym, she gained more than just coaching experience.

She saw firsthand the positive impact that the art of boxing was having on women. It was more than just improving physical health, but helping people gain confidence, building confidence, and providing support throughout one another’s fitness journeys.

Lorena was inspired to pursue her own path as an entrepreneur, and she became certified through the State of New Mexico to teach fitness classes. A community leader herself, she was already familiar with WESST through partnerships with other organizations. She connected with our team in Hobbs for guidance in the early stages of launching her business. She has since established her own LLC and obtained the necessary licensing and registration to legally operate. Lorena attended WESST trainings to develop her business plan and manage her cash flow, helping her feel more confident and prepared to support her growing clientele.

Lorena had a vision for a safe and welcoming space for women’s physical fitness but needed to find the right space. Finding a location that is both economically feasible and the best option for her clients has been her biggest challenge to date. Since physical spaces are limited in Hobbs, Lorena has had to think creatively about how to offer her services while continuing to search for a permanent location. She secured an opportunity to begin teaching classes at the CORE and continues to work toward her long-term goal of opening her own studio

Before joining the WESST Accelerator and Incubator program, Studio 11 Fitness was just an idea. Through the program, I was able to build the foundation for my business from the ground up. I completed my instructor certification, registered my business with the city, and developed a plan to serve my community through fitness. WESST did not just help me start a business; it helped turn a dream into a real opportunity to make an impact in my community."
