Santa Fe, NM: Teena Redhorse

Teena Redhorse first became involved with WESST in 2023, before she officially launched Redhorse Engineering, an engineering and expert project management business. At the time, she knew she had the technical experience to start a business, but she also knew there was a lot she didn't yet know about running a business. Teena started taking business trainings at WESST, learning the fundamentals to develop a business plan, and continued with additional classes on finances, marketing, and building a website.

One of the biggest barriers Teena faced was simply getting started. "People often talk about having a great business idea, but they don't always talk about everything that has to happen before you can actually launch," says Teena. It was overwhelming at times with all the moving pieces, and she wanted to make sure she was building her business the right way from the beginning, and this is where WESST helped.

WESST became an invaluable resource, providing guidance, practical checklists, and the support I needed to navigate the startup process. Having someone who could answer questions and point me in the right direction made what felt like a daunting process much more manageable.

WESST worked with Teena to identify a grant to help her purchase the equipment she needed after landing her first client, a huge milestone for her business. Through WESST's marketing trainings, Teena built her website and launched marketing campaigns. She credits WESST for supporting her journey, even after her business launch, and encouraging, advocating, and investing in small business owners like herself.

WESST gave me more than the tools to start a business, they gave me the confidence to believe I could build one. They empowered me to take a leap of faith, walk away from a career that no longer fulfilled me, and pursue a vision I had dreamed about for years. Today, Redhorse Engineering is a growing business because WESST invested in me before anyone else did.
