Elaine Owens was first introduced to WESST in 2023 by a high school classmate, who happened to be a contractor with WESST’s Native Women Rising program. With starting her consulting business, Rich Empowerment, she faced obstacles with direction, support, and encouragement.
Living on the Navajo Nation, Elaine found it difficult finding like-minded entrepreneurs. She teamed up with WESST and found what she was looking for, the empowerment to turn her idea into a business.
“I came to WESST, not knowing what to expect other than meeting new people. Once I got on board and started bringing out my ideas, like a flood, the support came rushing in. It was overwhelming because for a long time, I had my mind wrapped around the idea that I could not do it, that it was impossible.”
In the past few years, Elaine started a family, raising three young children under the age of five, and has gone through a divorce. She has found herself struggling with imposter syndrome again, that she could not be a leader or a successful entrepreneur, but she credits WESST with providing necessary encouragement, celebrating each and every milestone.
“Without WESST my company, my business, my family would not be where I am at right now. What made my experience even more meaningful was their respect for my Navajo culture and traditions. They showed me how my heritage could be honored, incorporated into my business, and served as a strength.”
