In 2023, Marisol Chaves Salcido was working as a server at a restaurant in Jal, New Mexico, spending her evenings and weekends on floral designs. Despite having no formal training, Marisol, a self-taught floral artist, developed her skills working alongside her mother. It was clear she had a unique talent for creating beautiful and heartfelt floral arrangements.
Her former employer suggested she meet with WESST, and she soon began discussing her dreams of starting a floral business. Life threw her a curveball when her mother became ill, and Marisol prioritized her family, putting her business plans on hold for a year. After her mother’s health stabilized, Marisol reached out to WESST, ready to pursue her vision and pick up exactly where she left off. De La Rose Flowers was founded and named in honor of her grandmother, De La Rosa.
Together with WESST, she began exploring brick and mortar locations in Hobbs, initially trying a shared business location. While this didn’t work out, Marisol remained optimistic and found another temporary location and continued the search for a more permanent option.
Throughout this process, I realized that I needed my own space to truly thrive. With the unwavering belief and encouragement from WESST, I embarked on the search for a building that could house my vision.
After much perseverance, Marisol purchased a building in Hobbs, housing De La Rose Flowers and offering additional office spaces to aspiring entrepreneurs. Her next goal
“The guidance I received from WESST gave me the confidence to believe in my potential and capabilities, providing me with the push I needed to pursue my dreams. Their support has been invaluable, not only fostering my entrepreneurial spirit but boosting my confidence to take bold steps into my future.”
