Surprise Balloons

In 2023, Elia Gonzalez learned about WESST through Sergio Polanco, the President of the Hobbs Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. She became familiar with WESST’s services and how they could potentially help promote what was, at the time, her project.  She attended a WESST training, decided to start her small business, and that ‘project’ became Surprise Balloons.  

One of the main obstacles Elia faced was how to get started. She had the knowledge and skills but did not know how to formalize her venture. After getting involved with WESST and the support they provided for woman entrepreneurs, it opened the necessary doors for her to take the next steps. Elia was hopeful and confident, and with WESST on her side, her business idea went from being just “a dream” to reality. 

A professional balloon designer, Elia registered and formalized Surprise Balloons. She worked with WESST to secure a loan to cover marketing and production expenses, as well as purchase equipment, such as steel bases for columns, arches and outdoor backdrop designs. Elia worked with our team in Hobbs, Albuquerque, and Roswell, showing the true strength of collaboration, to achieve her dream and make it a reality.
