The Happy Place

Claudia Contreras’ passion for child care started years ago when she first launched her home daycare business, The Happy Place. After working relentlessly to provide high-quality care, Claudia earned a five-star rating for her home childcare program through the State of New Mexico’s focus program.

For years, she envisioned expanding her business. Life’s circumstances didn’t quite line up, and the timing never seemed right, until it all fell into place at the end of 2024. She found a location to accommodate her vision for a second childcare location, and this was the catalyst she had been waiting for.

Claudia first learned about WESST through our partner organization, Growing Up New Mexico. With a clear vision and a deep commitment to her community, she sought guidance and support as she prepared to launch her second business.

Working closely with WESST consultants, she focused on creating comprehensive business plans and projections for her new venture. These sessions helped lay the foundation for her success, and Claudia was able to secure a $25,000 loan.  This capital injection was a game-changer, allowing her to make improvements to the new location to provide a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for children for years to come.

Claudia continues to lean on and collaborate with WESST for ongoing support, participating in ongoing consulting sessions to refine her business strategies.  She is confident that, with the continued support from WESST, her second child care business will continue to flourish.
